I forgot how cigarettes make all your clothes smell abysmal. I think I was just trying to imitate a fictional character who also can’t write. But for grant proposals, the scotch serves its time-honored purpose: allowing you to say things with a straight face that you could never say sober.

Sort of like… what would Spielman and Teng have done if they weren’t working on this and this and this, and they cared about the Unique Games Conjecture, expander flows, and random walks on groups?
